La Fortuna: Paradise for observing animals in their natural habitat

Costa Rica is known worldwide for its enormous biodiversity. The community of La Fortuna is a perfect example of this. Surrounded by many rivers, springs, and forests, it is home to different species of birds, frogs, butterflies, monkeys, sloths, deer, snakes, and pumas, jaguars, and others.

In this place, you will have the opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat, thanks to the different tours that can be a part of. One is the diurnal route, where it is possible to see iguanas, basilisks, and other insects, allowing you to learn a little more about their way of living.

La Fortuna is considered a kind of wildlife sanctuary, where the protection and conservation of animals is a priority, specifically for sloth bears. As well as monkeys, including the howler or congo monkeys. It is also the house for reptiles such as the crocodile.

One of the activities you cannot miss when you are in this area is the nocturnal observation walk of wild frogs since, according to specialists, there are more than 30 species in this place. This is a truly immersive experience because you will be surrounded by forest and nature, where the sounds of each animal intermingle with a sense of adventure and adrenaline.

But if you are one of those who prefer a slightly quieter route, you can visit one of the butterfly gardens. In them, the Morpho butterfly, recently declared a national symbol in Costa Rica, is one of the protagonists due to its characteristic light blue color. This tour is ideal to do in the early hours of the day when they are most active.

Due to the topography of this area, La Fortuna and its surroundings are considered truly privileged and exclusive places for bird watching, which is why many tourists visit it for this reason. Of the 900+ of bird species in our country, it is possible to find a little more than 500 of them in the surroundings of the Arenal volcano.

If you are still wondering which species you will be seeing, here are a few of the most frequently sighted:

-Toucans: Every morning, between 5:30 am and 7 am, they can be observed in the town and the mountains.

-Congos: It is a monkey that emits a loud sound, so you will likely find them on any hike.

-Pizotes: They pass up to three times a day in the streets surrounding the Arenal Volcano National Park.

-The famous sloth: They are everywhere, so you have to have a good eye, but if you are unlucky, you can still go to some of the sanctuaries, as there are many in La Fortuna.

Please consider that it is possible to get to these places through the EasyHop private transportation service, paying only $12, allowing you access to very safe and high-quality buses. With this option, you can visit up to four tourist sites daily.
